Dr Marai Mahizhnan

Dr Marai Mahizhnan is a specialist neurologist at Brisbane Neurology, the Royal Brisbane and Women's and The Prince Charles Hospitals.
He is locally trained and completed dual fellowships in epilepsy at the Mater Epilepsy Unit and in clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular training at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Syndey. Following these fellowships, Dr Mahizhnan attained the highest level of accreditation (level 3) for both electroencephalography (EEG) and nerve conduction studies/electromyography (NCS/EMG).Â
Dr Mahizhnan has special interests in both focal and generalised epilepsies, and in both genetic and acquired neuromuscular disorders. He also sees a broad range of general neurological conditions including headache and migraine for which he can provide Botox therapy.Â
Dr Mahizhnan has published peer-reviewed scientific articles on the topic of stereotactic electroencephalography (SEEG) in the evaluation of focal epilepsies. He has also presented at national and international neurological conferences including at the Epilepsy Society of Australia Annual Scientific Meeting and the International League Against Epilepsy: Chinese Chapter case conference.
In his spare time, Marai enjoys spending time with his family and taking on challenging walking trails.Â
